Template notice: this page describes how the software actually behaves. Before launch, the operator must add their legal name, contact address and jurisdiction, and have it reviewed.

Listening without an account

You can use Radio Naija without registering. Your favorites, recently played stations, recent searches, volume and radio settings are stored in your own browser (local storage) and never leave your device.

What our server records

The home page can use Cloudflare’s approximate network city and time zone to greet you. This may be inaccurate on mobile networks or VPNs. We do not store this estimate, your coordinates, or your IP for this feature. You can override or forget the city; your override stays in this browser. We do not request GPS access. Weather bulletins identify the city covered and are not evidence of your location.

• Optional play events: with analytics consent, we record successful starts, failures and listening duration by station and time. No IP address, account or device identifier is stored with those events. Signed-in listening history is stored separately for your account.
• Searches: the search text and the number of results, with nothing identifying who searched.
• Accounts (optional): your email, an optional name, a salted scrypt hash of your password, your preferred country and genres, your favorites and recently played stations.
• Submissions: the details and contact information you send through the station and contact forms.

Cookies

We set a sign-in cookie when you log in and a small cookie remembering your preferred country. If advertising is enabled on this site, our ad partner uses cookies only after you agree in the consent prompt; declining does not affect listening.

Smart sponsorships (when enabled)

Only after optional consent, we set a signed, 24-hour ad-frequency cookie, rn_ad_cap. The database stores a hash, not the cookie value, to limit repeat campaign delivery. We do not infer sensitive traits or analyse broadcast audio for advertising. Sponsor visibility observations are unverified browser reports, not audited audience or revenue figures. Optional ad receipts are kept for up to 30 days and expired frequency records for up to 48 hours after reservation when the daily cleanup is running.

Advertisers may upload private 10–15-second WAV creatives for editorial review. Campaign contacts and authorised moderators can preview them. Files are not served as advertisements merely because they were uploaded or approved. Campaign and payment records remain separate business records; contact the operator to request removal where retention obligations allow it.

Third parties

Song information first uses broadcaster-supplied stream metadata. When this is unavailable and experimental recognition is connected, our server takes a short bounded sample of the public station stream, processes it transiently in a private Hugging Face Space using ShazamIO, and sends its audio fingerprint to Shazam’s unofficial matching service. We do not use your microphone or send listener identity, account details or location. The sample is not retained by Radio Naija; only the station’s returned song title and artist are briefly cached and shared across listeners. Recognition can be unavailable or incorrect and is labelled experimental. This feature is not used for ad targeting.

Audio comes directly from each broadcaster’s own streaming server, which will see your IP address like any website you visit. Station logos are loaded from the broadcasters’ addresses listed in the directory. We tell the Radio Browser project which station was started (not who started it) so its public popularity figures stay accurate.

Deleting your data

Delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account; this immediately removes your account, favorites and history. Browser-stored data can be cleared from the Favorites and Recently played pages or your browser settings. For anything else, use the contact page.
