How to brief a radio commercial for Radio Naija listeners

Turn a clear business brief into a reviewed script and voice commercial, with accurate claims, a usable call to action and transparent paid placement.

Give the writer facts it can use

Describe your business, the product or service, the intended audience and the action a listener should take. Include a supplied public business website when useful, but do not assume every website can be researched. State the correct business name and pronunciation, service area and contact details intended for the advert. Private booking contact details are not automatically advertising copy.

Make one call to action memorable

A short commercial has limited time. Choose a main action rather than packing several unrelated offers into the script. Check the spelling of a website and any number that will be spoken. If an offer has restrictions or an expiry, supply those facts explicitly. Never ask a writer to invent availability, a discount, medical evidence, financial returns or an endorsement to make a brief sound stronger.

Review the script and recording

Radio Naija uses the submitted brief to prepare a script and voice production. Check the current supported language options and the recording’s pronunciation before approval. AI production does not remove the need to check accuracy. A script is not a finished recording, and a generated audio preview is not proof that the commercial is approved or has aired. Production availability and review remain part of the workflow.

Understand where the advert appears

Approved commercials are paid, labelled placements for listeners using Radio Naija. They are not a purchase of an original broadcaster’s own advertising inventory. Actual delivery depends on eligible listening sessions and the placements available. Keep the invoice and use actual reporting to evaluate delivery. A paid invoice, an approved recording and a heard commercial are different milestones, none of which guarantees sales.
